Uzbekistan: an additional charge was brought against the blogger

Blogger Miraziz Bazarov has been charged under the article “Libel from selfish or other base motives”. At first, a criminal case was opened on the collective application of teachers of school No. 110. Now, three bloggers, whom Miraziz Bazarov accused of bullying, have been recognized as victims. This was reported to the online media Gazeta.uz by lawyer Sergey Mayorov.

Most Uzbek media ignore information about the case of Bazarov after Komil Allamjonov (head of the board of trustees of the Public Fund for Support and Development of National Mass Media) called on all media and bloggers to stop covering the LGBT topic.

According to the lawyer, from April 1 to April 20, the law enforcement agencies received 28 applications from citizens, as well as a collective application from the teaching staff of school No. 110 in Mirabad district demanding “to take legal action against Bazarov Miraziz”.

The Department said in its statement that in his videos on the Internet, the blogger “insults citizens and their families, accuses them of aiding terrorist organizations; with his slanderous statements, ridiculing national traditions, he offends women’s self-esteem and also sows ethnic strife”.

Lawyer Sergey Mayorov said that that an additional charge was brought against Miraziz Bazarov.

“Initially, the resolution was issued on April 28. It was said that he was suspected of committing libel. His status was a suspect. Only the teachers of the school No. 110 were mentioned there. Within 10 days, according to the law, he must be charged if a measure of restraint was chosen; and it was chosen. Therefore, on May 8, he was charged both with respect to these teachers of the school No. 110 and these three bloggers … and these are the ones who started the harassment,” the defender said.

Miraziz Bazarov noted on his Telegram channel that three bloggers – Abror Abduazimov (Abror Mukhtor Aliy), Shukhrat Musayev and Abusalikh Salimov (AbuSolih Fox) set their subscribers against him. He also claimed that one of the said bloggers wrote his exact address “with a call to kill him”. The blogger evoked their hatred with posts about the movement of anime and kpop music lovers, whom the persecutors mistake for LGBT people.

ACCA previously wrote about the beating of the blogger. Open and closed craniocerebral trauma, laceration of the right eyelid, contusion of the soft tissues of the chest and abdominal cavity, open fracture of the tibia. This was the result of the attack on Miraziz on the evening of March 28 by unknown persons.

Three men were waiting for him near his house, suddenly attacked and beat him with a baseball bat for about three minutes. A witness to the attack told Ferghana.ru about this. A few hours before the beating, Miraziz posted a video on his Telegram channel, in which he foresaw a coming reprisal by the adherents of the so-called national values, who already knew his home address and mobile phone number.

The blogger sent the collected evidence of threats to the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the virtual reception of the President, from where, according to him, a refusal to consider the application came with lightning speed. The blogger is sure that this became possible after he accused the authorities of misusing loans from international financial organizations, disputed the honesty of the presidential elections in October, and spoke impartially about the capital’s mayor. In revenge, someone posted information on the Internet about the provision of sex services by Bazarov.

The authorities opened a criminal case against Bazarov on April 22. He is now under house arrest.
