Uzbekistan: suspicion of LGBT propaganda in wearing short socks by schoolchildren

The son of the adviser to the Minister of Justice and blogger Shakhnoza Soatova was suspected of promoting LGBT ideas. She announced on her Telegram channel that, at the direction of the school administration, the short socks of the child and his peers were photographed, explaining the shooting as a fight against sexual minorities. The text was published in Uzbek, but the online media “Uznews.uz” was translated it into Russian, thanks to that the information quickly spread on the network.

“Are schools now paying attention to topics reminiscent of LGBT people instead of lessons? You are driving anti-propaganda to the point of absurdity. Close this topic at least in schools! I see it as LGBT propaganda. After all, black PR is also PR,” the blogger wrote.

According to Shakhnoza, “there is no concept that lessons are sacred, education is sacred. Every time the children come home from school and say, “They checked our uniforms in class, beat those who were not wearing ties.” What a pity the missed lessons!”

The blogger writes that on April 15, during the lesson of Uzbek language, during 20 minutes, the schoolchildren listened to a lecture on the connection between LGBT people and insufficient length socks.

“Confronting actions alien to the national mentality in the form of wearing short socks, watching anime and loving kpop performers is painfully reminiscent of the struggle of communists with long hairstyles and listening to Western music. This is such an ideological continuity,” the ACCA expert notes. “Under Karimov, rap was banned, and after him they began to fight for values that didn’t coincide with the national mentality and state policy.”

Earlier, ACCA wrote about the emergence of the position of “Propagandist of spirituality” in the staff list of educational institutions and universities of the country since April 1. This is stated in the decree of the President Mirziyoev, which consolidates the discourse on the fight against “destructive ideas and information threats”.
