Kyrgyzstan: candidates for deputies are suspected of forging documents and bribery of voters

The Ministry of Internal Affairs received applications from a candidate for deputy to the local council to verify the facts of voters’ bribery and the authenticity of secondary education documents. According to the Ministry, some information was confirmed.

In particular, it was established that a candidate for deputy running for the Council of Torken village of Toktogul region provided the Commission with a forged document. The check showed that the secondary education certificate of school No. 19 in Toktogul district is a fake. Moreover, the man never studied there.

“This fact is registered in the Unified Register of misdemeanors and crimes under the article 359 “Forgery of documents” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. A pre-trial investigation has begun. The candidate for deputy was handed a notice of suspicion of committing a crime,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

In addition, on April 8, in the Unified Register of the Department of Internal Affairs of the city of Osh, the material was registered under the article 192 of part 1 “Bribery of voters” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

As it was found out during the pre-trial investigation, a private lawyer on behalf of a candidate for deputy from the political party “Rodnaya strana (Ata-Zhurt) Kyrgyzstan” [“Home country Kyrgyzstan”] handed over food products to a disabled person of group II, which is strictly forbidden to do during the pre-election time. In this regard, the man was served a notice of suspicion of bribery of voters.

At present, the Department of Internal Affairs of Osh city is carrying out pre-trial proceedings on this fact.
