Uzbekistan: almost $ 100 million was stolen from the budget in 2020

Last year, nearly $ 100 million was stolen and misappropriated. These facts were revealed by the Chamber of Accounts. The funds were allocated from the state budget and trust funds to state organizations.

On April 6, 2021, at a regular meeting, the MPs discussed the report of the Chamber of Accounts for 2020. In the structure of the Ministry of Public Education, deficiencies and embezzlements were revealed in the amount of 192.2 billion sums (the exchange rate for April 7 is $ 1 = 10,470 sums).

In the Anti-Crisis Fund of Uzbekistan, which was created to combat the consequences of the pandemic, shortages and illegal expenditures for 23.8 billion sums were found, of which 8.4 billion sums of illegally allocated funds were returned to the Fund.

The total corruption in projects, funded by international financial institutions, was called “mistakes and shortcomings” in the Chamber’s report. Theft was in 24 of 81 projects in the amount of $ 12.6 billion completed in 2010-2019 using public external debt.

“In 2020, more than 30 billion sums were embezzled in the health care system. So, 828 million sums were stolen in Tashkent branch of the Oncology Center; 423 million sums – in the clinic of the Pediatric Institute of Tashkent,” the President said. The first deputy prosecutor general is responsible for ensuring “the rule of law and the inevitability of punishment”.

Earlier, at a video conference, the President Mirziyoev said that the head of the Medical Association of Jondor region had illegally squandered over 1 billion sums.
