Turkmenistan: young athlete was killed for refusing to lose to a relative of the President

In Akhal region, a teenager Suleiman Tursunbaev was beaten to death. He practiced judo at the Regional Olympic reserve school.

In early February, judo competitions were held in the city of Baharden. Before the decisive fight, Suleiman was ordered to “lie under his opponent,” that is, to lose. However, Suleiman disobeyed and won first place in a fair fight, becoming the champion in his weight category.

After the end of the championship, Suleiman’s trainer was severely beaten, and Suleiman was taken away by athletic young people in an unknown direction. The teenager was severely beaten and left to die in the street. Passers-by called an ambulance and taken him to one of the capital’s hospitals, but due to threats from the Prosecutor’s Office to Ashgabat’s doctors and a demand under any pretext not to accept Suleiman, the boy was denied emergency medical care. The doctors advised to take the teenager to his place of residence in Kunyaurgench district of Dashoguz region, which is over 500 kilometers from the capital. Suleiman was taken to the district hospital at his place of residence and there a few days later the teenager died.

As it turned out, the competitor of Suleiman, whom he was ordered to lose, was one of the relatives of the wife of Serdar Berdymukhamedov, the son of the President of Turkmenistan. ACCA sources said that two bodyguards of one of the President’s nephews were involved in the abduction and beating of Suleiman.

At the moment, it is known that the Prosecutor’s Office received an order not to investigate this murder, allegedly Suleiman fell unsuccessfully. As it became known, Suleiman’s mother, Ziyada Khodzhakova, was taken to Ashgabat by unknown people. The woman has not yet returned home.
