Kyrgyzstan: ex-mayor of Bishkek is accused of corruption

The Prosecutor General’s Office reports that former mayor Albek Ibraimov was found guilty of corruption and put on the wanted list.

The investigation established that Albek Ibraimov was involved in corruption in the state-owned enterprise “Manas airport”. During his tenure as mayor of Bishkek and chairman of the board of directors of Manas International Airport, Ibraimov patronized the Turkish company “Gata havayollari ve tasimacilik” and some officials of International Airport to benefit. In particular, he illegally provided benefits for international transportation to a foreign company. The damage is estimated at $ 12 million.

“In this connection, on February 8, 2021, the investigating authorities brought charges against Albek Ibraimov in absentia under article 319 of part 1 “Corruption” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. He is currently on the wanted list,” the Prosecutor General’s Office emphasizes.

It’s also worth adding that in Kyrgyzstan, the former chairman of the board of Manas International Airport OJSC, Emir Chukuev, was also detained in this case.
