Kyrgyzstan: parliamentary deputy was arrested on suspicion of corruption

MP Kubanychbek Zhumaliev was detained on February 4. The press service of the State Committee for National Security informed about this.

The Department notes that Zhumaliev, being a deputy and at the same time the actual owner of the International Medical University, using his political influence in lobbying bills in the field of education, illegally obtained the license to conduct educational activities.

“The Licensing Commission initially refused to issue the license to the International Medical University due to non-compliance with the established legal requirements. However, under the influence of Zhumaliev on the leadership of the Ministry, the mentioned conclusion of the Commission was changed in a positive direction,” the message says.

In addition, the facts of illegal enrichment, legalization of criminal proceeds and tax evasion on an especially large scale on the part of the deputy, as well as persons and business entities affiliated with him, were established.

“At the moment, about 78 real estate objects and various companies have been determined. Among them are the shopping centers “Taatan” and “GOIN”, educational and medical institutions, hotels, mineral deposits, TV and radio company and a metallurgical plant owned by Zhumaliev, his relatives and affiliates, which were previously transferred into private ownership through privatization,” the Department noted.

Currently, the deputy is imprisoned in the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security.
