Kyrgyzstan: State Committee for National Security illegally keeps foreigners in pre-trial detention center

During a visit to the detention center of the State Committee for National Security, employees of the National Center for the Prevention of Torture revealed violations of the term of detention of citizens.

During the round of the cells, human rights activists found out that two citizens of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan were there in violation of the terms of detention. Instead of 48 hours prescribed by law, the detainees have been there for 14 days.

“The court of Oktyabrsky district (Bishkek) has chosen a measure of restraint for these persons in the form of detention in institution No. 21 of the State Penitentiary Service. However, despite the court ruling, the State Penitentiary Service doesn’t accept persons without the results of PCR analysis,” the National Center explained.
