Kyrgyzstan: customs officer was detained for extortion

The Financial Police detained the shift chief of the checkpoint “Red Belt” (“Kyzyl Bel”) of the State Customs Service. This was reported by the Department.

A private entrepreneur has applied to the Financial Police to take action against the officials of the checkpoint “Red Belt” (“Kyzyl Bel”). According to him, using their official position on a regular basis, they extort money for the unimpeded passage of customs control.

This fact was registered in the Unified Register on the grounds of the crime under article 326 “Extortion of a bribe” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

“On January 26 of this year, during the search operations, in the city of Kyzyl-Kya, the shift chief of the checkpoint “Red Belt” (“Kyzyl Bel”) was detained in the act of accepting a bribe,” the Financial Police said.

In addition, during the search of the car of the detained official, $ 1.2 thousand (100,000 KGS) were found. The suspect couldn’t report on the origin of this money.
