Kyrgyzstan: official, accused of embezzlement, was released from jail

The ex-head of the Southern branch of the state enterprise “Kyrgyz railways” (“Kyrgyz Temir Zholu”), suspected of embezzling state property, was allowed to go home after compensation for damages.

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Service under the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan revealed a corruption scheme in the Southern branch of the state-owned enterprise “Kyrgyz railway” during the organization and conduct of public procurement.

“As a result of the unlawful actions of the former chief Bakhtiyar Yunusov, only on certain state purchases, the amount of damage amounted to $ 137.8 thousand (11.7 million KGS). The ex-head of the Southern branch of the state-owned enterprise was detained on December 14, 2020 on the grounds of the crime under article 205 (part 3, clause 1) “Appropriation or embezzlement of entrusted property on an especially large scale”. By the decision of the judge of Pervomaisky District court of Bishkek, Yunusov was placed in the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security until February 14,” the State Committee for National Security informs.

As part of the pre-trial proceedings, Yunusov admitted his guilt and fully compensated the damage caused earlier to the budget. Then the official was changed the measure of restraint – house arrest.
