Kyrgyzstan: an official of Ministry of Transport was arrested for illegal enrichment

The Director of the Department of Roads under the Ministry of Transport and Roads is suspected of illegal enrichment. Based on the collected materials, pre-trial proceedings were started on the grounds of a crime under article 323 “Illegal enrichment”. This was reported by the State Committee for National Security.

It was established that during the period of work in the civil service, the Director of the Department became owner of expensive movable and immovable property and a large number of cattle. The total value of his property is many times higher than his official income.

“In order to conceal the criminally acquired property, the official registered assets for his close relatives and affiliated persons. In particular, three mansions and executive cars were registered on them. He previously owned a mansion and more than 20 apartments in the center of the capital,” the State Committee said.

In addition, regular trips of the official and his close relatives to the resort areas of the far abroad have been established.

The investigation believes that the Director of the Department of Roads has significantly increased his assets through government purchases for road construction. It’s worth noting that annually more than $ 35.4 million (3 billion KGS) are allocated from the state budget for this purpose.

Currently, other officials of the Ministry of Transport, who are involved in corruption schemes, are being identified.
