Uzbekistan: an official was detained while receiving a bribe in Samarkand region

In Samarkand region, an employee of the secretariat of the deputy hokim of Urgut region on the development of industry, capital construction, communications and utilities was caught when receiving $ 15,000. He and his accomplice were detained by employees of the Regional Prosecutor’s office, the State Security Service and the Department for combating economic crimes.

The official demanded $ 30,000 for the allocation of 1 hectare of reserve land in the free economic zone of the region. During a search, $ 10,000 were found in the suspect’s car, and $ 5,000 in the pocket of his accomplice.

A criminal case was initiated against the bribe-takers under clause “a” of part 4 of article 168 (fraud on an especially large scale) and clause “a” of part 3 of article 211 through article 28 (complicity in giving a bribe on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code.
