Kyrgyzstan: 28 officials of different ranks in the Ministry of Transport were detained for corruption

State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Roads, Ermek Mamyrkaliev, was detained on suspicion of corruption. This was reported by the press service of the Financial Police of Kyrgyzstan.

State Secretary Ermek Mamyrkaliev was detained by the Financial Police as part of a previously revealed corruption scheme in the Ministry of Transport. This scheme was functioned during the implementation of road and transport control of the State Directorate of Bishkek-Osh highway.

In 2018, hardware and software systems were installed to control the receipt of payments through the tunnels at the checkpoints “Sosnovka” and “Kara-Kul” of Bishkek-Osh highway.

“However, despite the automation of the work of the above stationary checkpoints, some responsible employees of the above structural unit, under the auspices of the top officials of the Ministry of Transport, against the interests of the state, have made changes to the system for a long time, thereby appropriating funds on an especially large scale,” specifies the Financial Police.

To date, 28 officials of different ranks have been detained in this case. The damage is amounted to $ 240.7 thousand (20 million KGS), of which $ 192.6 thousand (16 million KGS) has been reimbursed to the state today.

At present, further investigative actions are being carried out in order to establish the circle of persons involved from among the employees of the Ministry of Transport.
