Uzbekistan: honor and dignity of deceased political prisoner were estimated at $ 45

The Military court of Tashkent covered up the arbitrariness of the authorities by its decision, denying to the relative of Andrei Kubatin a comprehensive recovery of material damage in connection with his unlawful arrest and detention as an accused. The former political prisoner died on October 29 from COVID-19, his elder sister Klara Sakharova filed a lawsuit. In the decision made on November 27, she will be reimbursed $ 45 previously spent by her on payment of state fees and postage.

In the social network, Klara spoke to the President Mirziyoev, “Adolat, adolat, adolat. Hakikat, hakikat, hakikat.” [Justice, truth] These are your words, Shavkat Miramonovich! Your reformed judicial system has estimated death and sufferings in prisons, illegal conviction and torture at 462,000 sums, which became reimbursement of court costs … The material damage itself, as I understand it, is 0 sums. That is, Shavkat Miramanovich, the price of “adolat” and “hakikat” in Uzbekistan. And you are still talking about human rights in the UN …”

According to Klara, in its decision, the Military court recommended her, as the legal representative of the deceased plaintiff, “to file a claim for compensation for moral damage in the Civil court”.

After the death of her brother, Clara continues to persistently fight for the honor and dignity of her brother, considering cynical the decision of the Military court. On December 10, she also filed a new claim for compensation for material damage in an adequate amount in the manner prescribed by law.

In an interview with an ACCA journalist, she announced her intention to use every opportunity to right a wrong.

“His son is eight years old and someone has to take care of him,” she said.

Earlier, ACCA wrote how the scientist was tortured in custody. Clara complained that many of the details of the torture never became known to the public.

“The torturers had a special technology of torture, when they beat on the left in a certain part of the chest. After such cruelty, the human heart will never be healthy,” said Klara Sakharova.

As soon as her brother was hospitalized, she did her best to treat him. She borrowed money to buy medicines and followed all the instructions of the doctors, without being able to control the course of treatment.

Now it is already difficult to explain the sudden death, the circumstances of which are incomprehensible and suspicious. Clara spent almost $ 2,000 on the purchase of medicines. Almost all the medicines were unopened in the hospital bedside table. The scientist died in the changing of doctors, about whom he constantly complained to his sister.

In December 2017, Andrei Kubatin was sentenced to 11 years in prison for high treason. At the same time, the National Security Service investigators accused the turkologist of revealing state secrets about the country’s mineral resources and inciting ethnic strife. Due to the falsification of evidence in May 2018, Kubatin’s term was reduced to five years. After numerous international protests and clear evidence of the fabrication of the case, he was acquitted on September 26, 2019.
