Kyrgyzstan: President’s plenipotentiary in Parliament was detained

On November 24, Kurmanbek Dyikanbaev, the President’s plenipotentiary in Parliament, was detained on suspicion of committing a crime under article 320 part 3 “Abuse of official position”. This was reported by the press service of the State Committee for National Security.

Dyikanbaev was placed in the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee.

The investigation found that during the election campaign in October of this year, he, acting in the interests of one of the political parties, forced the head of the state-owned enterprise to transfer him more than $ 82,000 (7 million KGS). Otherwise, Dyikanbaev threatened to remove him from his post.

“Kurmanbek Dyikanbaev used the illegally obtained money during the election campaign. Thus, he abused his official position in order to ensure that he would receive a larger number of votes,” the State Committee for National Security emphasized.

It is worth adding that Dyikanbaev participated in the parliamentary elections on behalf of the pro-government party “Birimdik”.
