Kazakhstan: over 2,000 corruption offenses were registered during 10 months

In Kazakhstan, 2.2 thousand corruption offenses were registered over 10 months of this year. Of these, according to the Committee of legal statistics and special accounts of the Prosecutor General’s Office, 46 crimes are classified as especially grave, 1.5 thousand – as grave, 490 – as average grave and 209 – as minor crimes.

Meanwhile, according to Finprom.kz website, the largest number of corruption offenses during 10 months of 2020 was registered in Almaty region (191 offenses). Nur-Sultan is on the second place (187). The third place was shared by Almaty region (170) and East Kazakhstan region (170).

Taking a bribe continues to be the most widespread corruption crime in Kazakhstan: 646 cases were registered during this period. Naturally, taking a bribe cannot exist without giving a bribe; 529 such crimes were registered.

The Anti-Corruption Agency has identified 994 persons who have committed corruption offenses; 879 of them were brought to trial.

Most of the corrupt officials are employees of mayor’s offices and their structural divisions. 189 people were identified. Corruption is not alien to law enforcement officers (164 people). The third place is taken by the lovers of easy money; they are the employees of the armed forces (42 people).

As reported by ACCA, following the results of 9 months, 381 pre-trial investigations were carried out on the facts of bribing officials. Of these, 274 cases were sent to court, 117 persons were convicted.
