Uzbekistan: customs officers stole $ 865,000 from the state

The former head of the customs post of foreign economic activity “Ark Bulok” and a group of his employees caused $ 865,000 damage to the state, and after being detained they continue to testify in court about bribes when the cost of imported goods was understated.

This fact was announced by the Prosecutor General Nigmatilla Yuldashev at the interdepartmental meeting on November 7. In the course of the investigation that began, it became known about the purchase of luxury real estate and an expensive car.

The circumstances under which a certain Jalilov, without higher education, led the post for four years, are now being examined. Nothing is said about his patrons in the speech of the Prosecutor General. During the search, $ 311,000 was found. The seizure of other valuables from the official was not reported.

Earlier, the President Mirziyoev gave a different figure. On January 31, he met with scientists. Then he said that “the head of one of the customs posts was taken into custody. They found $ 400,000 at his home. He was the head of one small post. It was just for one day”.

Over the past two years, 27 customs officials have been prosecuted. In February, personnel reshuffles began in the State Customs Committee. Employees, who came to the system from the Prosecutor’s office, were dismissed from the department.
