In Karaganda, the trial of the former head of the investigative isolation ward AK-159/1, who forced the prisoners to make repairs in the apartment of his friend, ended.
As ACCA has already reported, the pre-trial investigation into the abuse of official powers by the head of the investigative isolation ward began in May of this year.
As the investigation found out, three convicts were taken to the city every day by an official car “Skoda” driven by a senior sergeant. At the same time, the prisoners had no convoy.
As part of the investigative measures, it was established that the prisoners were taken out by order of the head of the investigative isolation ward AK-159/1 (detention centre-16) Zhanat Kopeyev, who promised his friend to make repairs in her new apartment in the microdistrict “Orbita”. The repair crew was supervised only by the sergeant-driver and the instructor-theologian from the detention centre-16.
The prisoners stated at the trial that there was no compulsion on the part of the head of the pre-trial detention center, they volunteered for this work. Nevertheless, the court sentenced Kopeyev to five years in prison, with the sentence being served in a minimum security institution (colony-settlement).
It is worth recalling that in 2017, an employee of the same pre-trial detention center Vladimir Andrushkevich was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison for organizing visits to two prisoners. As a result of these visits, the woman became pregnant. This story surfaced when the prisoner had to have an abortion.
Andrushkevich went to jail alone. Other employees of the pre-trial detention center were not prosecuted.
