Tajikistan: customs officer stole over $ 1 million

Numonzoda Somon Saidi, the cashier of the financial and economic department of the customs department of the capital of Tajikistan, was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to the press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Numonzoda was found guilty of abuse of office and embezzlement of more than $ 1 million of budget funds. As the investigation found out, Numonzoda, together with his accomplices, transferred the funds to the accounts of private companies, while drawing up fake acts.

The convicted will serve time in a colony with a high-security regime, and after being released, he cannot hold positions in government structures for another 5 years.
