Tajikistan: high-ranking employee of the anti-drug agency detained

On August 19, Lieutenant Colonel Sayfiddin Barotzoda, head of the operative-search department of the Drug Control Agency, was detained. It is noteworthy that the arrest was carried out by employees of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).

According to the center of public relations of the State Committee for National Security of the republic, he was detained for the fact that during the exercise of his official powers by fraud, he embezzled money on an especially large scale.

On this fact, a criminal case has been initiated against the detained Lieutenant Colonel Barotzoda under article 247, part 4, paragraph “b” (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan, a preliminary investigation is underway.

We recall that on August 19, the press center of the Anti-Corruption Agency announced the arrest of two high-ranking officials of the State Committee for National Security. Both of them are suspected of taking bribes.

And on August 18, SCNS officers detained Colonel of the anti-corruption department Jonibek Mahmadzoda while receiving a bribe.
Experts in Tajikistan call the ongoing events a war between law enforcement structures that has been going on for many years.
