Tajikistan: Colonel of Anti-Corruption Department arrested while receiving a bribe

On August 17, officers of the State Committee for National Security detained Colonel Mahmadzoda Jonibek Bek, a leading specialist of the Office for Control of Economic Entities, Investments and State Loans of the Agency for State Financial Control and Anti-Corruption, while receiving a bribe on an especially large scale, reports the state agency of Tajikistan.

A criminal case is initiated against the colonel, the investigation continues, but other details are not reported yet.

Recall that last week, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon ordered the heads of departments to free the ranks of the courts and prosecutors from random people by checking and studying the personal files of employees.

However, as noted by an expert from Tajikistan, such statements are made regularly by the president.

“These are the standard statements by the president, but the real situation is completely different. In fact, the entire corruption system in Tajikistan is supervised by the president and his family. They sell positions, appoint people from their clan, and this has been going on for more than a dozen years,” the expert notes.

Regarding the detention of a senior official of the Anti-Corruption Department, the Tajik expert stressed that this is not a fight against corruption, but a war between law enforcement agencies.

“Almost all law enforcement and security structures compete with each other, and often their interests do not coincide, as a result of which such high-profile arrests occur,” the expert said. – I am sure that the Anti-Corruption Agency will soon repay the SCNS with the same coin. They have enough compromising evidence against each other, their main task is to find a weak link in a competing structure and hit it. ”
