Another scandal flared up in Kyrgyzstan. The Financial Police have received anonymous messages from relatives of those who died due to COVID-19, who claim that the Republican morgue is extorting money in order not to carry out an autopsy. ACCA was informed about this by the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes.
The fact is that 80% of Kyrgyzstanis are Muslims. For religious reasons, an autopsy is prohibited, and morgues take advantage of it.
“Recently, we began to receive many complaints about the actions of the employees of the Republican Morgue. All as one declare that they demanded money for refusing to autopsy. In this regard, the investigative subdivision of the Department of State Service for Combating Economic Crimes in the city of Bishkek has begun pre-trial proceedings on the fact of extortion of funds from the relatives of the deceased, ”the Financial Police said.
On July 20, journalist Khulkar Isamova reported on her page on social networks that a similar situation is taking place in morgues and the South of the republic.
The fact is registered in the Unified Register of Misdemeanors and Crimes under Article 238 — Illegal receipt of remuneration by employees of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan. The pre-trial proceedings are currently under investigation.
