Turkmenistan: website of the Democratic Civil Union went live

The Democratic Civil Union of Turkmenistan created the website 14 years after the registration of the organization in the Netherlands. According to Vyacheslav Mamedov, the chairman of the Democratic Civil Union of Turkmenistan, the official propaganda of Turkmenistan sometimes creates the impression among residents of neighboring countries that Turkmenistan is a country with cheap gas, salt, and bread, a country where happy citizens prosperously live in the shade of the Great Arcadag (President Berdimuhammedov – red .).

“This is not true, and we intend to counter our information barrier to it, ”Mamedov said. The 30-year falsification of statistics has led to the fact that neither the exact number of residents in Turkmenistan, nor the key economic indicator – GDP, nor the national currency rate – manat, are currently known. All this makes it impossible to estimate the real standard of living in the “country of Arcadag.” Therefore, international organizations operate with unreliable statistics of official authorities, use their methods and data, which are far from objective, when assessing the standard of living in Turkmenistan.”

The Democratic Civil Union of Turkmenistan fills this gap by defining in the first publication the real standard of living of ordinary Turkmen citizens.

The Democratic Civil Union of Turkmenistan is a non-governmental and non-profit organization that was created and registered in the Netherlands in 2006.

As its main goal, the organization considers consolidating the efforts of the civilian leaders of Turkmenistan in human rights protecting, preserving the national cultural heritage, and building a secular and democratic state in the country. The organization pays great attention to the support of civilian leaders in Turkmenistan and Central Asia.

In 2006-2019 the organization coordinated regional human rights projects in the field of information security. In 2015, a comprehensive course on information security was developed for civilian activists.

The Democratic Civil Union of Turkmenistan is actively engaged in analytical work. The results of analytical studies for 2014-2019 are published on this site in the “Reports” section.
