Kyrgyzstan: journalists and human rights activists organized a rally against the new law

According to various estimates, from 100 to 300 people (journalists, human rights activists and civic activists) gathered near the Parliament’s building. The reason was the bill “On the manipulation of information”, which was authored by MP Gulshat Asylbaeva.

The bill proposes to prohibit the dissemination of false and doubtful information, as well as to close all anonymous user pages on social networks.

Earlier, lawyers of the legal clinic “Adilet” and media experts said that this bill violates the constitutional rights of citizens.

The deputy Dastan Bekeshev went out to the people gathered at the rally. He supported the activists, calling the new law dangerous.

“I hope my colleagues will change their opinion concerning this bill,” Bekeshev said.

The bill “On the manipulation of information” will be considered in the Parliament on June 25.
