Uzbekistan: human rights activist was beaten in Andijan

Human rights activist, Mubinabonu Aliyeva, from the Andijan regional branch of the Committee for the Protection of Personal Rights of Uzbekistan was beaten. As a result, she received a grave brain concussion.

On May 16, two women attacked an activist from Andijan and, having fallen to the ground, began to beat her. When the neighbors managed to stop the assault, brawlers began to pelt the house of M. Aliyeva with stones.

The head of the Committee for the Protection of Personal Rights of Uzbekistan, Saidjahon Zainabiddinov, completely rejects the version of local law enforcement officers about the domestic conflict. According to him, “law enforcement agencies have been involved in the attack for the public activities of his colleague.”

The situation arose after the human rights activist contacted the Prosecutor General’s office by hotline concerning the construction of houses under a high-voltage power line and the illegal use of electricity by the families of the attacking women.

According to S. Zainabiddinov, the inspectors of the local department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who arrived on call, initially refused to accept a statement on the facts of illegal entry into private territory and beating, which caused damage to health with unpredictable consequences. The proceedings began after the insistent claims from the Committee for the Protection of Personal Rights of Uzbekistan.
