In Tajikistan, unknown people beat up independent media journalist

An attack was made on a journalist who recently often published critical materials regarding the activities of the authorities.

The Asia-Plus media journalist, Abdullo Gurbati, was beaten by two unknown people in the evening of May 11 in one of the Tajik capital’s district. Masked assailants, without explanation, began to beat the journalist, and when he started screaming, they hid in an unknown direction. Abdullo Gurbati went to the hospital by himself. However, due to quarantine, several medical institutions refused to receive him. Only in the third hospital, the journalist was provided with medical assistance. Shortly after, police officers arrived and took evidence from the injured journalist.

The Asia Plus editorial office reports that recently unknown people often called the journalist and threatened him with reprisal.

This is not the first time a journalist has been beaten in Tajikistan. The journalist Daler Sharipov, convicted on April 16 of this year, was also beaten by unknown people several years ago. The law enforcement authorities couldn’t find the culprits.
