In Kyrgyzstan, deputy proposed sending prisoners under house arrest

Member of the Parliament, Dastan Bekeshev, proposed to release prisoners, who are in investigatory isolation ward, under house arrest. The parliamentarian told ACCA about this.

According to him, in a crisis situation, the country should pass to a saving regime. One of the ways to save money, according to Bekeshev, is to reduce the cost of maintaining people in jail and to grant amnesty.

“Today, the state spends $1.48 from the budget for the food of one prisoner per day. It’s a large amount per year. If we release some of the prisoners, this will unload the budget. I proposed an amnesty and, in addition, to release persons in pre-trial detention under house arrest. We are now talking about the crisis and the lack of budget funds. And what to do when there is no money? – To save!” the people’s deputy emphasized.

According to him, the matter is about releasing persons suspected of not serious crimes from the pre-trial detention center.

“These may be persons suspected of economic crimes, petty hooliganism. I don’t think that they will immediately run to rob someone or make a violent uproar,” said Bekeshev.

However, according to the deputy, his proposal has so far been ignored.

“There should be a reaction from the General Prosecutor’s office. They must develop an appropriate resolution and appeal to the court,” the parliamentarian concluded.

In Kyrgyzstan on March 12, two bills “On amnesty in connection with the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War” were submitted for public discussion. To date, the documents have been sent for a second reading.
