In Kazakhstan, the average amount of bribes from 2018 to 2019 increased by $30. This was announced by the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan, Rustam Zhursunov.
According to Zhursunov, in 2019 the project “Special review of corruption 2019” was carried out, in the framework of which a survey of 5891 entrepreneurs was conducted. Respondents were asked to talk about corruption in government.
“The lowest bribe size was recorded in the environmental sphere ($120-130), the highest was in construction and land relations ($130-520),” the business ombudsman explained. “In regions with a low level of corruption, the size of bribes is higher and, conversely, in regions with a high level of corruption, the size of bribes is lower. The average size of a bribe compared with 2018 increased from 500 to 530 dollars.
Zhursunov also noted that the highest interest rates were recorded in Nur-Sultan, Almaty, as well as in Karaganda and Aktobe regions. In these regions, the minimum recorded bribe amount was $260, and the maximum was $5195.
The lowest rates during the survey were identified in Chimkent, in Turkestan, Zhambyl and North Kazakhstan regions (from 2.5 to 520 dollars).
At the same time, according to Zhursunov, it turned out that every second respondent faced corruption in the field of land relations and the environment, every third in the areas of transport, construction, customs and agriculture, and every fifth in the field of taxes and public procurement.
