Kazakhstan: director of a grain-receiving enterprise received 8 years in prison

In the East Kazakhstan region, the trial concerning the director of a grain-receiving enterprise that stole wheat and sunflower stocks totaling $3.6 million from the state reserve was completed.

The theft was discovered in March last year. When checking storage facilities owned by the Shygys-Astyk enterprise in Semey city and at the Aul station in Borodulikhinsky district, instead of 17 000 tons of wheat, buckwheat and sunflower, the inspectors found only manure and snow. The shortfall was 98%.

According to the investigation, the director of the grain-receiving enterprise sold agricultural crops, purchased from regional agrarians for the state reserve, to unidentified persons.

“As a result of the criminal actions of the defendant, the state represented by Prodcorporation suffered damage on an especially large scale totaling $3.6 million. According to the case file, the lack of quantitative condition of grain amounted to 11 000 tons and sunflower in the amount of 153 tons,” reported in the press service of the court.

According to the court decision, the defendant’s guilt in embezzlement of another’s entrusted property was fully proved. He was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment in the institution of a penitentiary system of medium security.
