Kyrgyzstan: 97 sites were declared extremist in 2019

In 2019, the Republic’s Prosecutor General’s office made 27 statements to the court declaring information materials extremist and terrorist and illegal drug advertisements that were satisfied.

Based on the results of the consideration of applications, the court by its decision prohibited and limited Internet access on the territory of Kyrgyzstan to 97 extremist websites and 300 pages of personal accounts, as well as to 21 information resources on which drugs were advertised.

“The prosecution authorities, in the framework of supervision in 2019, submitted 257 acts of prosecutorial response to the executive authorities and local self-government, on which 225 officials were disciplined,” the Prosecutor General said.

Among other sites and accounts, the following articles and videos were included in the list of informational materials prohibited by the courts of Kyrgyzstan: “Tajik savages descended from the mountains. Kyrgyz people, be careful!” (dated 08.09.2014), “Purely Kyrgyz som. Imams representing ethnic minorities do not receive salary” (dated 06.06.2016), posted on the website Eurasianews.info; “People as Beasts,” available on Fergananews.com; Interview with Abdylda Kaparov, distributed on the TV channel “Sentyabr” [“September”] by S-2 television broadcasting, RTRK S-2 LLC (dated September 29, 2016).
