In Kazakhstan, head of Regional Tax inspection was detained

Employees of the Anti-Corruption Agency detained the head of the State Revenue Department (Tax inspection) in Atyrau region, Kairat Zhulmukhambetov.

As follows from the press service of the Department, a pre-trial investigation was launched against the detainee on suspicion of committing a corruption offense.

“He is suspected of receiving bribes on a systematic basis, in the first case – in the amount of $3000 of the required $10 000 from his subordinate for promotion and general protection; in the second – $1300 from an individual entrepreneur for assisting in the liquidation of his company without tax checks. In respect of the suspect, a preventive measure in the form of detention was authorized. The final decision on the degree of guilt of the suspect will be made by the court,” the Anti-Corruption Department said.

Kairat Zhulmukhambetov has been working in tax authorities since 1997. He was the head of the Tax inspections of the West Kazakhstan and the North Kazakhstan regions, the head of the Tax offenses analysis department under the Tax Committee of the Ministry of Finance, the director of the Tax and Customs Legislation Department of the Ministry of Finance, the director of the Taxation Methodology Department of the State Revenue Committee under the Ministry of Finance. He headed the Universal Declaration Department of the Digitalization Department and State Services Committee of State Revenues. He has state awards: the anniversary medals “20 years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan” and “25 years of Independence”, as well as the badge “For contribution to the development of the tax service”. This badge is awarded to employees who have worked in the tax authorities for at least 10 years, for exemplary performance of official duties and impeccable public service.
