In Kyrgyzstan, officials were engaged in extortion

Officials of the rural district of Kanysh-Kya (Chatkal region) are suspected of committing a crime under the article 326 “Extortion of a bribe” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the investigative measures in the framework of pre-trial proceedings, it was found that after the win in the tender for the supply of consumer goods to kindergartens, the responsible officials of the rural district of Kanysh-Kya (Chatkal region), abusing their official position, began to demand a kickback of 10% of the tender’s amount. Note that the application amount was $14 365 (1 million KGS).

“Officials extorted $1.4 thousand (100 000 KGS) from a businesswoman by blackmail. Only after that they promised to transfer the declared amount for the provided services,” the Financial Police said.

As part of the pre-trial proceedings, the entrepreneur transferred money through the bank in two tranches in the total amount of $1000 (70 000 KGS) to the personal account of the chairman of the tender commission. After the seizure of the relevant banking documents, the head of the tender commission was detained.

Pre-trial proceedings are currently underway.
