In Kyrgyzstan, editor-in-chief of Factcheck information portal was beaten up

Today, on January 9, the editor-in-chief of the Factcheck website, Bolot Temirov, was beaten in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the editors of the portal.

Asel Sooronbaeva, editor of the Kyrgyz version of the Factcheck website, told ACCA that two unidentified men attacked Bolot Temirov at around 12:30 (Bishkek time) near the office.

“When he went into the office he was in terrible condition. He could not even stay on his feet, blood was flowing from his head and ear. They knocked out his tooth,” said Sooronbaeva.

According to her, the chief editor of the Factcheck website did not receive threats. However, last year, he was offered money so that he would not publish the second and third parts of a journalistic investigation about the withdrawal of $700 million from Kyrgyzstan, one of the persons involved in it is Raiymbek Matraimov.

“There have been offers of financial assistance in return for which he will not publish the investigation. He refused, and the calls stopped. At the end of December, the article was published фищге the minor expenses of Matraimov’s wife, after which Ddos attacks began on our site,” added the editor of the Kyrgyz version of Factcheck.

Asel Sooronbaeva noted that the neighbors informed them, that the day before two unidentified athletic men asked them where the Factcheck office is located.

“After the incident, we immediately called an ambulance and the police. Bolot was interrogated for a long time, then we went to a forensic medical examination. After we’ll go to the hospital. It is not yet clear whether they will put him in hospital for inpatient treatment or not,” Sooronbaeva emphasized.

At Factcheck’s office, the attack on the editor-in-chief is associated with his professional career. Recall, the site is engaged in verifying the facts published on the Internet, and identifying fake news.

The attack on the journalist was commented by the press secretary of the President of Kyrgyzstan Tolgonay Stamalieva.

“We regret. I hope that this fact will be investigated by our law enforcement authorities. Even if it is not related to his professional activities, every crime must be solved. This is an axiom. Every citizen has the right to protection,” she said.
