On December 30, the Administrative court of Andijan decided to arrest for 15 days the blogger Abdufatto Nuritdinov (a pseudonym of Otabek Nuritdinov on the network). According to the Regional Prosecutor’s office, the resident of Andijan was punished for “slander, insult and disorderly conduct”. Under two articles of the Administrative Code, he was also fined over $1400.
The reason for the prosecution of the blogger was more than 20 publications about corruption in the region from August to October of last year. According to the Prosecutor’s version, the “victims” and injured “citizens” were the head of Asakinsky district, the regional department of public education, the director of the school in Asaka and the head of the local water system organization, whom the blogger allegedly insulted on December 30. The Prosecutor’s office said that legal measures were taken after the oral appeal of officials.
According to the Prosecutor’s office, the blogger’s guilt was proved by publications and photos published on the social network, as well as some other evidence provided by the “victims”. The arrested blogger has 1039 followers on the social network.
The information of the blogger about the corrupt actions of officials, the Prosecutor’s office ignored. Only his mother openly defended the blogger. She wrote a letter to the Information and Mass Communications Agency, which calls itself the advocate of the blogging community.
An another arrest of the media activist from Andijan was after the release of blogger Nafosat Ollashukurova on December 28. On October 4, with the sanction of the prosecutor, she was forcibly hospitalized in the Regional Psychiatric Clinic in Khorezm. The blogger was twice punished for covering the protest action. Relatives and friends of opposition journalist Mahmud Rajabov decided to walk with him to Tashkent in search of justice. A group of activists was detained, and on the night from 23 to 24 during six hours, the court delivered verdicts. The court sentenced Mahmud Rajabov and Nafosat Ollashukurova to 10 days of arrest.
