Tax Inspection is the most corrupt structure in Kazakhstan

$6.5 million is the damage from corruption crimes committed by tax officials of Kazakhstan. Such a statement was made by senior investigator of the first department of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan Daniyar Bigaydarov.

According to Bigaydarov, more than 50% of corruption cases in the system of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan are in the tax service. And the most common corruption crimes among tax officials are bribery, fraud, and abuse of power.

“Since the beginning of 2019, 383 corruption criminal cases have been in the proceedings of the Anti-Corruption Service, 202 of which were sent to court, 92 people were convicted. The damage from these crimes amounted to about $6.5 million. Of these, more than $5 million is currently repaid to the state,” Bigaydarov said at the briefing in Nur-Sultan.

At the same time, he noted that some of the corruption crimes are also committed by the customs authorities.

In addition, Kazakh judges were convicted of corruption. So, according to Bigaydarov, this year 11 criminal cases were opened against Kazakh judges, six of which were referred to court.

“In all six cases, sentences were imposed; judges were sentenced to various terms and sentences,” the speaker noted.

He also explained that the cases examined by these judges could be reviewed if it was proved that the decisions were unlawful.
