Kazakh corruption fighters detained the head and accountant of the Olympic Weightlifting Training Center on December 17 in Almaty on suspicion of receiving a bribe of $17.2 thousand.
The video, that was posted today on the network, shows how anti-corruption officials found in the back seat of the car of one of the detainees a package in which there are several weighty packets of money.
The report notes that the Center’s employees received this money as a reward for concluding an agreement on training camps for weightlifters in Zhambyl region. Both detainees were placed in a temporary detention center in Almaty.
Note that the names of employees are not called. However, on the Center’s website it is indicated that its head is Maden Kaliekov.
The Olympic Weightlifting Training Center was established in 2007. The Center is preparing a sports reserve and the national team of Kazakhstan in weightlifting. The Center for Sports and Physical Culture Affairs under the Ministry of Culture and Sports oversees the work of the Center. By the way, this Committee since January 2019 has been headed by the famous Kazakh boxer, Olympic champion of 2012, Serik Sapiev, who is also a goodwill ambassador to UNESCO for sports and chairman of the Council for Physical Culture and Sports of the member states of the Commonwealth of independent states.
Recall that in Kazakhstan from December 10, 2019, the personal responsibility of managers for corrupt subordinates began to operate. The principle of liability is quite simple: if a subordinate is caught in a bribe, the leader must resign within 10 calendar days after the court verdict comes into force or the criminal case is terminated on non-rehabilitating grounds in relation to his/her immediate subordinate. Whether Serik Sapiev will remain at his post is still unclear, since the pre-trial investigation into the detained leaders of the Olympic Weightlifting Training Center is still ongoing.
