Kyrgyzstan: court arrested three media accounts in a lawsuit filed by Raiymbek Matraimov

Former deputy head of the Kyrgyz Customs Service, Raiymbek Matraimov, as well as his close relatives, sued radio “Svoboda”, journalist Ali Toktakunov, Kloop, and 24.kg. In total, he demands from the media more than $850 000 (59.5 million KGS). This was reported by the Sverdlovsk district court of Bishkek.

It is noted that the amount of claims to protect the honor and dignity of Raiymbek Matraimov amounted to more than $850 000 (59.5 million KGS): $314 960 (22 million KGS) to radio “Svoboda”, $178 954 (12.5 million KGS) to Kloop, $214 745 (15 million KGS) to 24.kg and $143 163 (10 million KGS) to the journalist of radio “Svoboda” Ali Toktakunov.

Earlier, ACCA reported that Raiymbek Matraimov said he had sued Ali Toktakunov, the correspondent of radio “Svoboda”, other media representatives, as well as former parliamentarian Shirin Aitmatova.

At the suit of Matraimov and his relatives, the judge Zhyldyz Ibraimova has already issued a ruling on the arrest of bank accounts of all three publications.

Recall that the reason for the claim of Matraimov’s family was a journalistic investigation of radio “Svoboda”, Kloop and OCCRP about customs corruption and the withdrawal of $700 million from the Kyrgyz Republic, where the name of the former deputy head of the Kyrgyz Customs Service was appeared.
