In Kyrgyzstan, judge was detained while receiving bribe

A citizen appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic with a request to take measures against employees of the Internal Affairs bodies of the city of Karakul in Jalal-Abad region, who, in collusion with the judge of the city court of Karakul, extorted $1432 (100 000 KGS) from him for a positive decision of the criminal case brought against the applicant.

During the operational investigative measures, it was found that the police captain of the Police department of Karakul, in criminal conspiracy with the judge of the city court of Karakul, acted as an intermediary and contributed to the achievement and implementation of the agreement on receiving a bribe for passing a positive sentence.

“On October 30, in the city of Karakul, when receiving part of the required amount of a bribe in the amount of $286 (20 000 KGS), the judge and deputy chief of the Police department of the city of Karakul were detained red-handed,” the MIA said.

Based on the materials of the application, the crime is registered in the Unified Register of crimes and misconduct on the grounds of a crime under the article 326 “Extortion of a bribe” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Currently, the Main Investigative Department of the State Committee for National Security is conducting relevant investigative and operational measures.
