In Kazakhstan, corrupt officials are identified in the Ministry of Defense

Another corruption crime was revealed by employees of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan. This time the bribe taker was found in the ranks of the armed forces.

According to the press service of the department, the commander of the battalion of troop unit No.61993 of the airmobile forces of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, which is located in Almaty, is suspected of receiving a bribe from the driver of the commandant platoon. The bribe in the amount of $260 was a reward for general patronage and cover for the driver during his so-called AWOL (absence from service).

The operation to identify the major corrupt official was carried out with the participation of employees of the Office of Military Counterintelligence Agency of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan for the landing assault forces and units of Almaty garrison.

As noted in the Anti-Corruption Department, the suspect fully admitted his guilt, so they did not begin to detain him. The final decision on the degree of guilt of the major will be made by the court.

It should be noted that troop unit No.61993 is very famous not only in Kazakhstan, but also beyond its borders. On the basis of the unit, sports are regularly held between military personnel from all over Kazakhstan, as well as meetings of representatives of the armed forces of many countries to discuss various joint exercises.

In addition, the peacekeeping brigade “KazBrig”, created with USA assistance, was formed from the military personnel of this unit.

Military personnel from troop unit No.61993 were already involved in scandals. So, in August 2017, the military court of Almaty garrison sentenced senior lieutenant Birzhan Kazhiev, commander of the repair company of troop unit No.61993, to three years in prison on charges of negligent service, which led to the death of a contract soldier during parachute jumps from an airplane.
