Significant crime reduction was reported in Uzbekistan

In the official statement by the representative of the Supreme Court, Aziz Abidov, information was circulated about a significant reduction in the number of criminal trials. For the last nine months of this year, 20 627 cases were examined in relation to 26 859 persons, which is 28.2% of cases and 27.2% of persons less than in the same period of 2018.

In particular, it is stated that 567 people were acquitted and rehabilitated, the number of convicted persons was 20 818, of which 5300 were sentenced to imprisonment.

In 2018, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan Pulat Babadzhanov stated that since the beginning of the year the number of crimes in the country has decreased by 40%. This year, he reported on the results of introducing a new crime elimination system. In the first quarter of this year, the crime rate against this period of the last year decreased by 31.6%, during this time 1082 crimes of past years were detected. With such statements, he responds to the decree of President Mirziyoev “On additional measures to improve the efficiency of ensuring public safety” of December 24, 2018. The President of Uzbekistan said that in 2018, 3734 crimes remained undetected, and promised that the administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs would be responsible for this.

The population is skeptical about positive indicators, as it is confident in falsification of reporting. Now there is a tendency for the prevalence of administrative cases over criminal ones. The recent refusal of law enforcement agencies to accept allegations of fraud in order to improve crime statistics in the country confirms the distrust of citizens.

The unwillingness to register citizens’ applications also helps to improve indicators. ACCA in its publication on missing girls noted the fact of direct sabotage of searches by police in Kashkadarya region. Only after the appearance of the article about their inaction, the data of adolescents entered into the database of wanted persons.
