Kyrgyzstan: The Ministry of Culture blocked the website of the Kyrgyz service of Radio Liberty

In Kyrgyzstan, the website of the Kyrgyz service of Radio Liberty (Azattyq) was blocked for two months. The decision was made by the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the republic.

The reason for blocking the site was the broadcast of the program “Present Time. Asia”, which came out in mid-September under the heading “Heavy fighting on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan”.

“The program contains elements of hate speech, unconfirmed information about the alleged attack by the Kyrgyz side on Tajikistan, information that aggravates the situation in society and causes hatred, discrimination and split among citizens when covering events in Batken region,” the Ministry of Culture explained its decision.

It’s worth adding that on October 24, Azattyq Media received a letter from the Ministry of Culture of the republic with a demand to remove the recording of a live broadcast “Present Time. Asia”, which was dedicated to the border conflict, from the YouTube channel within 24 hours.
