Kyrgyzstan: Criminal case was initiated against former and current judges of the Supreme Court

The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan is investigating a criminal case on the fact of illegal withdrawal and legalization of previously nationalized property, in particular cottages and apartments on the territory of Aurora Plus boarding house in Issyk-Kul region.

Thus, on May 25, 2010, by the Decree of the Provisional government of the Kyrgyz Republic, a land plot of 10 hectares, located on the territory of Issyk-Kul-Aurora sanatorium in the village of Bulan-Sogottu (Issyk-Kul region), was nationalized and transferred to the state. There were 97 properties on it. All of them previously belonged to family members of the fugitive President Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his close associates.

However, later, these objects were withdrawn from state ownership by the courts of 3 instances by making deliberately unjust decisions. At the same time, it was established that judges received expensive cottages and apartments in Aurora Plus in the form of bribes from interested parties, as well as large sums of money.

“Also for assisting in the withdrawal of nationalized property from state property, bribes in the form of cottages and apartments on the territory of Aurora Plus boarding house were received by individual members of the Provisional government and deputies of Parliament,” the State Committee for National Security emphasizes.

As a result of illegal actions, damage was caused to the interests of the state, the amount of which, according to preliminary estimates, is more than $5,999,700 (500 million KGS).

“Based on the materials collected by the State Committee, the Prosecutor General initiated a criminal case against the former Chairman of the Supreme Court, the former Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court, the current judges of the Supreme Court and the former Chairman of the Interdistrict Court of Bishkek under part 2 of Article 336 “Corruption” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The investigation is underway,” the SCNS said.

In addition, the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, as part of the investigation of these criminal cases, is taking measures to return to the state the previously nationalized property of the family of Bakiyev.
