On September 28, the Pervomaiskiy District Court acquitted investigative journalist Bolot Temirov. Temirov announced this on his Facebook page.
“Justice has prevailed today, but only partially. There is also a fly in the ointment. But all of you who supported me, who were in court and at the courthouse, who followed the case, all of us, we have done a good job! This was the first step. And anyway, we will win. Justice will prevail!” the journalist wrote.
At the meeting on September 21, the state prosecutor asked to convict him by adding up sentences for a total of 5 years in a penal colony. The issue of Bolot Temirov’s deportation to Russia was also raised in accordance with Article 70 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Bolot Temirov was detained on January 22 in his office. When examined from his back pocket, the special forces soldiers took out a bag with a dark green substance, presumably it was drugs. Eyewitnesses, who were at the time of Temirov’s detention, claimed that the drugs had been planted on him. Also, the analyzes didn’t reveal traces of drug use in the body of the journalist.
The City Department of Internal Affairs of Bishkek initiated a criminal case against Temirov on illegal production and possession of drugs. A few months later, the investigation accused him of illegally obtaining citizenship of Kyrgyzstan and illegally crossing the state border.
