The nephew of the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, businessman Kairat Satybaldy, who is now on trial in Astana, agrees with all the charges against him and is not even against the punishment that the Prosecutor’s Office requested from the court.
It should be recalled that Satybaldy and four other defendants are accused of embezzlement of the funds of Kazakhtelecom JSC and Center for Transport Service JSC on an especially large scale.
As ACCA has already reported, on September 8, Kairat Satybaldy and Kazakhtelecom JSC entered into a mediation agreement, according to which Nazarbayev’s nephew pleaded guilty and compensated for the damage in the amount of $25 million.
By the way, the rest of the defendants also fully admitted their guilt and also entered into a mediation agreement and repented of their deeds. In addition, the defendants also compensated for the damage caused to Center for Transport Service JSC in the amount of more than $58 million.
At the last court session, prosecutor Zhangeldy Yesebayev, representing the side of the prosecution, asked the court to find Nazarbayev’s nephew guilty of the crimes he was accused of and, according to the procedural agreement, to sentence him to 6 years in a general regime colony, and also to ban him from holding public positions for a period of 10 years. Another demand was to deprive Satybaldy of state awards and the rank of Major General of the National Security Committee.
The defendant himself, speaking before the court, stated that he admits his guilt and fully agrees with the charges brought against him. He also noted that he agrees with the punishment that the prosecution requested for him.
It should be noted that according to the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan, under the article, which is imputed to the nephew of the ex-President, punishment is provided for up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
