Kyrgyzstan: TV channel director was sentenced to 5 years in prison for reprinting news

The CEO of Next TV channel was found guilty of inciting ethnic hatred. The Pervomaiskiy District Court of Bishkek sentenced him to 5 years in prison, but it was decided to change the real term to 3 years of probationary supervision.

Employees of the State Committee for National Security detained the Director General of Next TV channel on March 4 this year. The reason was the reprint of information about military assistance to Russia from Kyrgyzstan. According to the State Committee for National Security, this publication incites ethnic hatred.

The TV channel itself was disconnected from national broadcasting, and the publication was recognized as extremist.

It’s still unknown whether Taalay Duishenbiev will appeal against the court decision.
