Kyrgyzstan: Man was rushed to hospital after being beaten by National Security officers

A 62-year-old resident of Aravan district of Osh region turned to human rights activists. She claimed that her son had been beaten by National Security officers.

According to her, when her 31-year-old son was at the market in Aravan near the building of the Tax Inspectorate, several men approached him and beat him for no reason, and then detained him and put him in a car.

“He was kept in the car while his house was searched. Then he was taken to the Department of the State Committee for National Security in Osh, where he was beaten again. He was required to tell the whereabouts of a certain citizen, whom her son didn’t know about. A lawyer wasn’t allowed to see him. The lawyer was able to meet with the victim only late at night after an electronic appeal through the portal of the Prosecutor General’s Office,” the woman told human rights activists.

After the beating, the man was taken to the hospital. The lawyer helped to file a complaint about the use of torture to the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the garrison of Osh. A petition was also filed to ensure the physical and procedural safety of the victim.
