Tajikistan: Another blogger and activist was detained for criticizing authorities

On September 6, another activist from Gorno-Badakhshan, Komyor Mirzoev, was detained in Moscow. According to the Internet portal Pamir Daily News, Mirzoev was active in his blog and wrote on social networks under the nickname Komchek Mirzoev.

According to eyewitnesses, police officers entered the apartment in Moscow where the blogger lived with his friends and took all the roomers with them. The blogger’s friends say that Mirzoev has been detained for his active citizenship and publications on social networks, and that he could be deported back to Tajikistan. Nothing is known about the fate of the detainees.

According to his friends, Komyor Mirzoev mainly wrote about problems in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast. “When the pandemic started, he wrote about the situation in one of the hospitals in GBAO, and then dozens of people sent money to this hospital,” his friends recall.

However, one of the representatives of the law enforcement agencies in Tajikistan, who is familiar with this issue, said on condition of anonymity that Mirzoev actively posted false information about events in GBAO under an assumed name, and also called on people from GBAO to hold unauthorized protests near the Embassy of Tajikistan in Moscow. Officially, the authorities of Russia and Tajikistan don’t comment on the situation with the detention of Komyor Mirzoev.

According to the Internet portal Pamir Daily News, over the past six months, almost 20 people from GBAO have been illegally detained and taken to Tajikistan.
