Kyrgyzstan worsened its indicators on the Rule of Law Index, which is compiled annually by the international organization The World Justice Project (WJP).
The Index ranks countries according to their achievements in creating an environment based on the existence of legislation that protects the rights of citizens. Based on the results for each indicator, a final score for the country is calculated on a scale of 0 to 1, where 1 is the highest level of rule of law compliance and 0 is the lowest.
At the end of 2021, Kyrgyzstan dropped four positions in the global rule of law ranking, taking 99th place out of 139 countries and jurisdictions of the world. The republic is located next to China and Tanzania.
It should be noted that, with the exception of 2016, when the KR worsened its performance by 0.7%, from 2017 to 2020, the country showed an improvement in the Index. However, all successes were leveled in 2021. Kyrgyzstan received 0.47 points and dropped from 95th to 99th place in the rating.
Thus, at the end of 2021, the republic entered 95 countries in terms of weakening the rule of law. Moreover, the Kyrgyz Republic was among the top three countries with the largest decline in the rule of law in the past year.
First place belongs to Belarus (-7.5%), second place belongs to Myanmar (-6.3%) and third place is shared by Nigeria, Nicaragua, Kyrgyzstan and Argentina (-3.7%).
