Employees of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan have completed the investigation of the criminal case against their former leader.
Former chairman of the NSC Karim Masimov and his former deputy, head of the Special Purpose Service “A” Anuar Sadykulov are accused of high treason, attempted to seize power by force, and abuse of power.
Another ex-deputy chairman of the NSC, Daulet Yergozhin, was charged with an attempt to seize power by force and abuse of power.
The third former deputy Marat Osipov, as well as two more ex-officers N. Bekmurat and D. Akipov, are charged only with abuse of power and official powers.
“Currently, the suspects are being familiarized with the materials of the case. The terms of detention of Masimov and Sadykulov were extended for the period of familiarization until October 6 of this year, Ergozhin until October 13 of this year, Osipov until October 22 of this year,” the National Security Committee reported.
Recall, as ACCA has already reported, the chairman of the NSC, Karim Masimov, was detained on January 8 this year on suspicion of high treason. The detention of Karim Massimov took place against the backdrop of the January tragedy, which engulfed almost all major cities of Kazakhstan. The protest actions, which began as peaceful rallies, very quickly turned into riots to pacify which the President of the Republic, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, even gave the order to “shoot without warning.” As a result of clashes, according to official figures, 238 people were killed, and over 10 thousand people were detained. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev officially stated that the real cause of the January riots was an attempted coup.
On January 10, Massimov’s deputies Daulet Yergozhin and Marat Osipov were relieved of their posts and subsequently detained. In addition to them, other high-ranking officials of the National Security Committee were also detained. All criminal cases were classified as “top secret”.
In February, Kazakh Prosecutor General Gizat Nurdauletov (currently Aide to the President – Secretary of the Security Council) said that the NSC was investigating 15 criminal cases on charges of high treason, abuse of power, and attempt to seize power.
We also recall that on January 15, that is, a week after the detention of the chairman of the KNB, it became known that his cousin Nurlan Massimov, who heads the police of Pavlodar region, was removed from his post and put on the wanted list on suspicion of committing a corruption crime – taking a bribe in large size. Note that Nurlan Massimov was detained in July at the border with Russia.
