The chief auditor of the Zhambyl region, the chairman of the audit commission, Zhanatbek Dzhaparov, was sentenced to pay a fine of $100,000.
Dzhaparov was arrested in May of this year on suspicion of accepting a $7,000 bribe from a local businessman for a positive audit decision. The investigation of the case was carried out quickly and already on June 6, the case was submitted for consideration to court N2 of the city of Taraz. But during the investigation, the charge was reclassified from taking a bribe to fraud.
Judge Duisenbaev considered that the guilt of the defendant was fully proven and sentenced him to pay a fine of $100,000, as well as a ban on holding positions in the public sector.
Zhanatbek Dzhaparov, 58, began his career as a construction accountant at the Pioneer state farm. Over the years, he worked as a collective farm chairman, vice-mayor of the Zhambyl region, a deputy of a local representative body, and a member of the audit committee. In November 2016, by the decision of the National Commission for Certification, he was awarded the qualification of “state auditor”. In 2019, he was appointed Chairman of the Audit Commission.
